Cross-Cultural Leadership. What Is It, and Why Do We Need It?

As we dive into the last 7 days of our Leadership Development Journey, we are going to explore some new and different leadership styles. Cross-Cultural Leadership is one such new and different style. First, I think of Brian Tracy who knows and speaks at least 6 different languages fluently, self-taught. The name of his business and brand is Brian Tracy International.

In this day and time, you have to be well versed in diversity and inclusion, as we are going to be presented with multi-lingual employees and multiple cultures represented no matter where we work and what we do. Try to think of the banking industry, there are so many nationalities represented because everyone needs to feel valued and comfortable.

I know if I was in a foreign country, and I went into my bank branch to speak to someone and no one spoke my language, I may consider moving my money elsewhere. I would want to speak to someone who knew my language. Now let’s say I wasn’t over there for tourism purposes, or just to speak at a Leadership Development Conference, but I was actually looking for a job.

There would be a huge barrier to entry if no one spoke my language. Now, we have to consider cultural issues like special proximity and what is perceived as disrespectful. Let me provide an example, in America, in the Black…
