Democratic Leadership… Not Just a Demo.

Democratic Leadership is a leadership style that is inclusive, that allows for others to be heard, that is people-centric, and one that does not destroy people in the process. You have read where I have said that leadership is an art and management is a science, or maybe leadership is to people as management is to processes. Democratic leadership is an art of the process, it is a way of getting things done with concern for the people in mind.

Democratic leadership does not decide without taking the people into account. They are conscientious in their leadership style, and people feel valued, like their opinions matter, and like they have a chance to be heard. Democratic leadership knows that the consensus of the people may not be the decision that is going to reap the most rewards in the short term; but if people are able to grow and learn from the experience, it will sacrifice the immediate gain for the long term growth.

This is Democratic leadership.

People feel included, and as if the process is meaningful in democratic leadership. It will be hard for them to leave such leadership because there is more vested than economic gain, role, or position.
