Facilitative leadership is a leadership style that empowers its citizens, employees, followers, etc. to enjoy the resources that they need in order to reach a goal. Facilitative leadership is always seeking to expand, train, equip, and ensure that everyone has just what they need in order to produce the best outcomes possible. Let’s look into the definition of facilitate to understand the root:

fa·cil·i·tate

/fəˈsiləˌtāt/

Learn to pronounce

verb

make (an action or process) easy or easier.

This means in sum; that this leadership style makes an action or process easy or easier.

Let’s dig into this. Have you ever had a boss that made your job harder? Someone that just didn’t understand how extra time, extra resources, or a particular program made your job easier? And they wouldn’t budge, no matter what? This leader was not a facilitative leader, they were the opposite.

The reason I am leaning into this is that you want to, as a leader, make your people’s jobs easier. It is enough of a job just to wake up and go to work for someone else. Let’s be honest. Everyone has their own goals, dreams, and aspirations for their lives. At least, while someone is willing to come to work for you or your company…
