We’re going to go into Discipline for a moment because when people say Leadership and think about Leadership we need to think about the principles and what Leadership consists of.

One of the main pieces of Leadership, and one of the main facets is Discipline.

Discipline that starts with yourself. So, this means self-discipline. Before you can lead an organization, before you can lead a family, you have to have control over yourself, and that requires Discipline.

Discipline consists of the ability to make a choice and then follow through with that choice.

Also, it is the ability to resist a force. Such as the urge to do something that you know is not in your, or someone else’s best interest.

You know people who all the time say, “I want to lose weight.” “I’m going to lose weight.” “I’m going to do it this year.”

But, they can’t seem to resist the urge to keep eating.

Good topic with this being the beginning of the year 2020.

Many people who set goals before 2020 came in, have already put those goals down.

Why? It’s because they don’t have the Self Leadership that it takes, they don’t have the Discipline to follow through. If they had Discipline, then they could lead themselves.

They could create a strategy and walk through that strategy, step by step.

Discipline. What does it mean?

The definition of Discipline is an action or inaction that is regulated.

To be in accordance with a particular system of governance.

Let’s look into governance.

Self-governance means the ability to control one’s self.

Do you have the ability to control yourself?

Your passions, your appetite, your anger, or your anxiety?

Do you have the ability to calm your breath, calm your breathing? Do you work out regularly? Do you over talk or overeat?

Do you know how to be patient and just be silent, and ‘mums’ the word?

These are the components that Discipline is made of, and Discipline is one of the principles of Leadership.

Before you can be an effective Leader, you must have effective Governance over yourself, and that requires effective Discipline.
