Leadership Development through Coaching — 3 Questions
In the science of leadership coaching, there are many variables to consider. There is the coaching of individuals, groups, teams, and organizations. Each undertaking comes with its own unique skillsets (Lawrence, 2017), as well as demands. It is imperative that the qualified professional knows the differences, as no two models are the same, nor do they present the same challenges. We will briefly explore some of the nuances of coaching teams for organizations here.
Briefly describe at least two considerations related to coaching teams for leadership development, and explain why each might be important to keep in mind during coaching.
One consideration related to coaching teams for leadership development is natural leadership ability, and the perceived leader (Hernez-Broome, & Boyce, 2011). The team presents an organization in and of itself. There is generally a leader within the context of these mini-organizations; there are going to be those who are blessed and capable to produce results and provide leadership. At the same time, there will generally be a perceived leader, and they are generally well-liked, the most popular, perhaps well-spoken, and their presence is usually highly efficient.
